During his visit with the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of BBVA, Ángel Cano, emphasized the importance of these meetings to facilitate entrepreneurial dialogue.
BBVA has operated in Puerto Rico for over three decades. In fact, the group’s first subsidiary in the Americas was opened in that country. BBVA Puerto Rico is presently part of the United States business division, one of the areas with the greatest strategic projection.
Through its support for foreign investment and particularly the public-private partnership plan to undertake a wide variety of infrastructure and energy projects, BBVA is one of the leading backers of the Puerto Rican government’s efforts to boost the economy of the island. BBVA brings to the table its excellent relations with the leading companies in these sectors, not only in Spain but internationally, and its proven experience in structuring and financing infrastructure projects that combine public and private investment.
As part of these collaboration efforts, the meeting brought together Governor Luis Fortuño, the top Puerto Rican authority, his economic team, a delegation of Puerto Rican entrepreneurs and representatives of the leading Spanish energy and infrastructure companies. The meeting included an in-depth discussion of projects such as Highway PR-22, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and opportunities in energy and water distribution.
